Portsmouth have announced the loan signing of Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden, who will join the League One side for the remainder of the season.
The 29-year-old Jamaican international will wear the number 18 shirt during his time on at Pompey.
Portsmouth manager John Mousinho expressed his excitement about the addition.
“Isaac is a central midfielder who has a wealth of experience in the Premier League and Championship,” said Mousinho.
He added: “He’s extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet and is also very strong defensively, possessing a lot of the attributes we were looking for. But he’s also a leader both on and off the pitch, so we’re delighted to be able to add him to the squad for the rest of the season.”
Hayden, product of Arsenal’s academy, he made his senior debut in the League Cup before joining Newcastle in 2016. In his first season at St. James’ Park, he helped the Magpies secure the Championship title.
Over his six-year period with Newcastle, Hayden made 171 appearances, scoring seven goals, and became a regular feature in the Premier League. In recent times. he has gained further experience through loan spells with Norwich City, Standard Liège, and Queens Park Rangers.
On the international stage, Hayden represented England at youth levels up to under-21 before switching allegiance to Jamaica, where he has earned two senior caps.
