John Eustace Opens Up On Two Key Qualities That Were Crucial To Derby County’s Win Against Coventry City

John Eustace hailed Derby County’s “heart and desire” as they made it back-to-back wins with a fine victory over Coventry City at Pride Park.

A goal in each half from Matt Clarke and Marcus Harness sealed all three points for Derby which ruined Frank Lampard’s return to theRams for the first time since he left in 2019.

The win moved Derby to within one point of safety in the battle to secure their Championship status and there were jubilant scenes at full-time.

And asked to sum up his emotions after the game, Eustace said: “I am very proud of the effort from the group and the heart and the desire they showed tonight after such a tough game on Saturday.

“To do that again was outstanding. We are fighting for our lives. We want to stay in the league.

“We are fighters not victims and that’s the mentality that we are really trying to push with this group of players.

“In the last two or three games we’ve certainly shown that desire and that fight.

“Tonight I thought we were great. We showed a never-say-die attitude. When we went ahead I never felt that we were going to concede.

“We were very well organised and full credit to the players for taking the messages on board.”
