John Eustace Makes Blackburn Statement As He Doubles Down On Derby County Decision

John Eustace admits Derby County’s Championship clash with Blackburn Rovers is “huge” – but not because he left Ewood Park for the Rams.

Eustace will face his former club Blackburn for the first time since leaving them to take charge at Pride Park last month.

Blackburn made it clear they were unhappy with Eustace wanting to hold talks with the Rams, before he was appointed by club owner David Clowes.

But Eustace had nothing but nice words to say ahead of Saturday’s match at Pride Park (3pm), which he admits is hugely significant for Derby as they sit bottom of the table and seven points adrift of safety.

And he doubled down on why he chose to join the Rams, saying it’s a “fantastic” club where he is determined to enjoy success.

Asked about facing his former club, he said: “The most important thing is that it’s the next game for us.

“We don’t want to play any differently. It’s a huge game and after a really good week on the training field the lads can’t wait for it.

“I had a fantastic relationship with the players and the staff at Blackburn and that was very important to me.

“I left the club in a really good position and now I’ve come to a fantastic club in Derby. I want to help build this brilliant club over the next two or three years and get them back to where they should be.”
