Johannes Hoff Thorup Opens Up On Norwich City Transfer Insight

Norwich City manager Johannes Hoff Thorup has told the Danish media he will continue to look to Denmark when recruiting new players.

The 35-year-old was installed as the Championship side’s coach in May and has already brought in signings from his home country.

Speaking to Tipsbladet, Thorup discussed the transfer policy at Norwich and suggested more Danes will be arriving at Carrow Road.

Thorup went on to say they will keep an eye on the Danish market and if a player fits their profile, they’ll look to move.

“It is no secret that we are looking in that market as well, because there are many young and talented Danish players. I also still think that we can afford to say that Anis (Ben Slimane) is a young or semi-young Danish player. So, it is interesting for us, and it is a market we continue to look in. In the end, it will be the quality that determines it and not the fit. But it is a market we are keeping an eye on,” said the Norwich City boss.

Asked about signing Oscar Schwartau this summer, Thorup explained the youngster wanted to try something new and that having Danish coaches at Norwich City helped in attracting the 18-year-old.“Oscar was interested in trying something new, and that was what opened the door for this. When we told him about the project and where we saw him in this, and there are of course two Danish coaches he could come over to, he was luckily interested. His profile is exactly what we are looking for”, said Thorup.

Thorup was also asked about the arrival of Anis Ben Slimane this summer and the Norwich City boss revealed he’s known the player since he was coming through in the AB academy.

“I’ve known Anis from even earlier than the Superliga, as an U14 coach in AB. So it is also a knowledge that goes back relatively far. I know him as a person, and I know he’s a great person. Hardworking, professional and a skilled football player,” said the Norwich boss.

Glen Riddersholm, Jacob ‘Lungi’ Sørensen, Oscar Schwartau and Anis Ben Slimane are already at Norwich City, but it seems more Danes could arrive under Thorup.

After an inconsistent start to the campaign he will be hoping his new signings will click into gear. Norwich City already find themselves eight points behind first placed West Bromwich Albion, and need to kickstart their season.
