Chelsea looked to have engineered a pretty good deal for Armando Broja by agreeing a loan with a conditional £30m transfer obligation predicated on Ipswich Town staying up this season. It seemed like a perfect arrangement for all involved, with a clear incentives and rewards for Ipswich, Chelsea, and Broja himself.
Alas, it looks like the deal was too good to be true. According to The Guardian, and others following on, it is “in danger of falling apart” due to “paperwork issues which are nothing to do with Chelsea”. Speculation as to what that actually means ranges from medical concerns to disagreements over personal terms. Either way, the deal isn’t completely off, but Ipswich are “believed to be looking at alternative options”.
With just a week left in the transfer window, this could be a big problem for Broja and Chelsea. Everton have been credited with some speculative interest, and there’s been some stray rumors from Italy as well, but nothing concrete at all.
