Iga Swiatek Claims Sponsors Like Rolex Or Porsche In WTA Ahead Of Roland Garros

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek in her press conference at the Madrid Open, shared important insights into the balance between personal autonomy and external pressures that professional tennis players often face. Speaking about the challenges many players encounter with sponsorship obligations and tournament scheduling, Swiatek emphasized how fortunate she feels to have partnerships that align with her values and lifestyle.

“I am fortunate enough to have partnerships that kind of fit me,” Swiatek explained. She mentioned her affinity for the brands she represents, stating, “I love driving with Porsche. I love wearing a Rolex. The same with Lancôme – doing that as well. So obviously, I love all of it, so it’s not like I’m forced to do stuff that I can’t.” For Swiatek, the key to maintaining her authenticity is working with sponsors who genuinely resonate with her personal interests, making her obligations feel natural rather than burdensome.

When it comes to scheduling tournaments, Swiatek stressed that her sponsors are understanding and prioritize her health and career development over commercial appearances. “If I would need to not play some kind of event, there wouldn’t be any situation where I would be forced. Preparing for some other tournaments comes first,” she said, noting that internal discussions with the partnerships keeps a good relationship going.

However, Swiatek did point out that organizational rules, particularly from the WTA, can be more restrictive. She cited regulations that penalize players with a “zero” in their ranking if they skip certain mandatory events, regardless of personal or unforeseen concerns. “I think the WTA is kind of forcing us more to play the events, even when sometimes we would pass them,” Swiatek remarked, highlighting that this system can be more limiting than sponsor demands.

“So, I think this is more unfortunate rather than like remembering to not drive any other car (laughing). Because, at the end, like, I think it’s important to have partnerships that fit you, you know. I think that’s the only way to go”, said Swiatek.

Iga Swiatek will feature in her second-round match next at the Madrid Open where she is looking to win her first title and make an imposing statement ahead of Roland Garros.
