Frank Lampard is lifting Coventry higher and higher and supporters have rewarded him for his efforts.
With a 2-0 win over West Brom, the Championship side now have a three-point play-off cushion over seventh-placed Middlesbrough with three games left to play.
The victory was their second in three games and Coventry put in a very professional performance against their promotion rivals with two well taken efforts from Jack Rudoni and Matt Grimes.
The Sky Blues are peaking just in time for the play-offs and with such a solid display, those in attendance got what they were hoping for.
In fact, there were more of them than ever, with the 31,167 at the CBSArena a new record.
Coventry moved into the stadium in 2005, and have now filled it to the rafters as they could record their highest finish in the English Football League since that date.
The team’s previous best finish was fifth in 2022/23 when they came the closest to the Premier League since their relegation from the top-tier in 2001.
Now with Lampard in situ, Coventry look more than ready to go again, and their manager was delighted with what he saw.
“We were brilliant in terms of our intensity, our organisation, all the things we spoke about,” the Chelsea legend told talkSPORT post-match.
“They’re a difficult team, West Brom, very difficult. We were really strong in every department, but we were very, very good today and I think we got what we deserved.”
When it was commented how comfortable Coventry’s players look with the football they’re playing, Lampard continued: “Well hopefully, that’s our job. We try and do that, we try and set the team up tactically.
“It’s one of your jobs as a coach to get the best out of your players with their best attributes, get them in the right areas.
“The things we spoke about before the game in possession, what we wanted to do with Rudy [Rudoni] between and Hadji [Wright] sometimes between and running behind at times, Ellis [Simms] threatening always is just an important part.
“Everyone has to play their part and the lads are great, they listen to the game plan, they try and deliver it.
“And when they’re at it like they were today, then you see the results.”
Asked how he sees the final three games going, Lampard finished: “There’s a lot of work to do because the teams around us won, some of them today, it’s going to go to possibly to the last game.
“So we can only control ourselves, control Plymouth, that’s what’s in front of us, recover well. It’s going to be a really tough game.
“It’s close, but if you’d have offered it to me a while ago, I’d be taking it all day. So we just have to keep going.”
