Coventry City’s rise up the Championship and into play-offs contention under Frank Lampard has been likened to Nottingham Forest’s surge to the Premier League.
The Sky Blues are just one point and one place outside the play-offs after winning seven of their last eight league matches.
They were down in 17th place in the table when Lampard took charge at the CBS Arena.
Former Forest player and first-team coach Andy Reid believes the Sky Blues could be timing their challenge perfectly, just like the Reds did under Steve Cooper to win the play-offs and promotion to the Premier League in 2022.
Speaking on the BBC’s Football Daily podcast, he said: “The thing about the Championship is the games come so thick and fast you can rack up a load of points quickly.
“Coventry are the ones you look at and they’ve put themselves in with a great chance because of how quickly the games come where you can gather the momentum and fire up that league quickly.”
“The timing of the run is key like Nottingham Forest did a few years ago where you get into the play-offs with a good bit of form,” Reid added.
“There is so much to be said for going into the play-offs where you’ve won six games on the bounce and you are battle-hardened.”
