Frank Lampard remains hopeful that both Ephron Mason-Clark and Milan van Ewijk will recover from their respective injuries that forced them off against Stoke in time for Coventry City’s trip to Derby County.
The Sky Blues boss returns to Pride Park and the club that gave him his managerial break for the first time on Tuesday, and it’s going to be touch and go as far as the above players’ fitness goes.
Winger Mason-Clark was forced to withdraw on 58 minutes with a pre-existing toe injury while right-back Van Ewijk hobbled off 11 minutes from time in the 3-2 victory over the Potters having gone down and received treatment a few minutes earlier.
Explaining the injuries, the head coach said: “Ephron has been struggling a bit this week with a toe injury, which is a painful one. He passed a fitness test on Friday and this is a recurrence of that, so we will just have to gauge it. Let’s hope he’s OK for Tuesday.”
He added: “Milan felt a little bit of an issue in his Achilles. He felt he could carry on and we’re hoping it’s not a bad injury and we’ll look and see how he reports tomorrow (Sun) but with a bit of luck he’ll be OK and in contention for Tuesday as well. But we’ll see.”
The only other senior player out injured at this moment in time is midfielder Jack Rudoni, who dislocated a shoulder at Oxford last week and isn’t due back until after the international break later in the month.
