Frank Lampard Opens Up To Leeds United Transfer On 26-Year-Old Coventry City Midfielder

Coventry manager Frank Lampard has reacted to reported Leeds United interest in Ben Sheaf.

The Whites were linked with a sensational move for the 26-year-old on 3 January due to the Sky Blues’ perilous financial position (Leeds United News).

Daniel Farke could look to add to his squad as he attempts to ensure automatic promotion to the Premier League, with his side currently top of the Championship despite a 3-3 draw with Hull on Saturday (4 January).

However, in quotes reported in the print edition of the Coventry Telegraph (page 34, 7 January), Lampard dismissed those reports, saying: “No, only that I knew that they are rumours I’ve heard them as you have, so yeah, I want to keep the players here.”

Leeds United to sign Ben Sheaf?

A potential move for Sheaf would absolutely ensure that the Whites secured promotion to the top flight this season.

The Elland Road club are currently top of the division but the promotion race is razor-close, with Burnley and Sheffield United just one point behind the leaders.

Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell have impressed in the engine room so far this season and Ethan Ampadu has performed well since returning from injury.

Ilia Gruev is still yet to return from injury and will provide more competition for places in midfield but Sheaf would be a game-changer.

He is a Premier League quality player despite plying his trade in the second tier and could take Farke’s side to the next level as they continue their push for automatic promotion.

However, with Lampard reluctant to lose the player it could be a hard deal to complete in the January transfer window but the Whites should try to do it.
