Frank Lampard admits Coventry City are looking to boost the club’s development squad with a view to bridging the gap to his first team.

The Sky Blues are understood to be one of a number of clubs from the Championship down looking at left-winger Charlie Warren of non-league side Felixstowe and Walton United.

The 20-year-old has scored 26 goals and provided numerous assists for the leaders of the Isthmian League North Division which has apparently caught the attention of City’s scouting network along with League One outfits Wycombe Wanderers and Lincoln, to name just a few.

Coventry are also reported to be among several clubs, including Norwich, Swansea and Peterborough, tracking 18-year-old non-league sensation Joe Andrews. The Wales Under-19 International is a 6ft two inches tall central midfielder who plays for Chippenham in the National League South, having been let go by Southampton last summer.

Asked about the fact that City have been linked with the non-league lads and whether are actively looking to boost the development squad with a view to progressing into the first team, Lampard said: “Yeah, and I don’t know who those names are because I don’t read all the press. But I think the best way to explain that is that we have our recruitment team led by Dean (Austin) who are forever looking into players for first team development and my job is here every day looking at the team.

“So those conversations, I’m not always privy to them until a certain point. But yeah, we’re obviously looking to try and bring in players that can help the development squad and can maybe have a future with us. It’s all good and that has to be a constant.”
