Frank Lampard was delighted with the character of his Coventry City players to snatch a late victory over QPR to lift the team up to eighth place in the table, just one point off the play-off places.
The Sky Blues weathered a late flag kick storm from the visitors but then went up the other end of the pitch and won the game in the last minute of five added for stoppages when Bobby Thomas made himself big at he back post to head home a Jack Rudoni corner.
“It’s a great way to win a game,” said City’s head coach with a smile. “I think first thing, respect to QPR. They played a good game as well, first half particularly when I thought we were quite a little bit off it, which is understandable after the week we have had. They have had a fresher week and time to prepare but it just shows you that if you can keep going and keep trying to do the right things you get your rewards.
“We had to tweak things with one or two players coming on to try to impact it with a change of shape and change of personnel a little bit and we stayed in it, which was tough, especially with set-pieces and transitions that they are good at. But we dealt with those in different ways and I thought we got what we deserved from what was a really close game that could easily have been a draw.
“But if you keep a clean sheet and have character then you give yourself a chance.”
