Recently on the Izion podcast, Kai Jones began to explain why he requested a trade:
“They were concerned about my social media, my sleeping patterns. They wanted me to see a therapist. I ended up going and felt like therapy wasn’t helping. Mitch tells me I’m not allowed to do training camp. That was when I’m like I’m off,”
Kai Jones, a 22-year-old center, was released by Charlotte after the former first-round pick made a bizarre display on social media Behavior that culminated in a trade request on X (formerly Twitter) last month.
“I’ve been praying for moments like this #GOATLIFE,”
Jones wrote on X following Charania’s report.
In September, Jones sparked concern when he appeared on Instagram Live, sweating profusely and speaking so quickly it was hard to understand.
The video went viral, and Jones denied being under the influence of alcohol.
“I was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”
“Had a great night in bed, everyone listening to #GOATLIFE,”
he wrote on Twitter.
Later that month, he seemed to agree that was a better basketball player than his teammates LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller.
“Since I came out of the womb, I’ve had a higher FG than these guys and none of them can protect me so know your skills before you talk about it here MF,”
Jones wrote on Twitter.
The Hornets, who took Jones first overall and 19th overall in 2021, then kept Jones out of training camp, with the situation coming to a head with his public trade request.
This marked a big change from July, when Jones went viral for dueling for Spurs top pick Victor Wembanyama and talking about how much he enjoyed the NBA Summer League.
Kai Jones appears to be saying on his IG Live that the Hornets won’t trade him.
“I’m having a lot of fun,”
Jones told the Charlotte Observer last summer.
“I really like it. So, I hope and try to get the W, that’s my life. Kai Jones announces on social media his desire to leave the Charlotte Hornets during his absence from the team, citing “personal reasons.”
The NBA star recently left the team due to his bizarre social media activity, which, according to the NBA, included criticism of other team members.
Kai was the 19th overall pick by Texas in 2021 and averaged 2.7 points and two rebounds in 67 games for the Hornets.
The team released a statement explaining Kai’s absence from training. According to the statement, he will be away indefinitely for “personal reasons.” He added:
“Out of respect for the personal nature of the situation, the Hornets will be making no further public comment on this matter at this time.”

In a series of X posts, the 6-foot-11 Hornets star wrote on X, formerly Twitter,
“I have officially requested to be traded from the Charlotte Hornets. #GOATLIFE.”
In a series of posts on Just an hour later, tweeted again and said:
“I’m fed up “To talk to people who darken my heart, I’ve always been a goat”
In a third post, he shared his game stats with the caption “ONE GOAT.”
