Former Derby County ace Jeff Hendrick is currently training with the Rams as they weigh up a potential swoop for the midfielder.
Hendrick has been a free agent since leaving Newcastle last summer but has been at Moor Farm as Derby contemplate a move for the 33-year-old.
Derby’s midfield suffered a huge blow last week when David Ozoh was ruled out for the season after picking up a thigh problem in the defeat to Millwall.
That has led Derby to take a look at Hendrick, according to the Daily Telegraph, and that could lead them to offering him a short-term deal until the end of the season.
Derby have already made a move in the free agent market by signing Kemar Roofe with the striker having appeared from the bench in the last two games.
Hendrick made more than 200 appearance for Derby during his time at the club where his performances eventually led him to the Premier League.
Burnley splashed out £10.5m for his services in August 2016 and he remained at Turf Moor for four years before leaving for Newcastle United on a free transfer.
He made 25 appearances in the league for the Magpies, but his spell on Tyneside didn’t meet expectations.
He subsequently enjoyed loan spells with QPR and Reading before he moved to Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long loan in September 2023.
He made 11 league appearances at Hillsborough, scoring one goal. He then left Newcastle once he returned to St James’ Park and is now training with Derby who are currently bottom of the Championship, seven points adrift of safety.
