EFL pundit Delivers John Eustace Verdict Amid Derby County Recent Form

John Eustace has done an “incredible job” since taking over at Pride Park, according to Sky Sports EFL pundit, George Elek.

Elek, appearing on the Not The Top 20 podcast, heaped praise on the Derby County boss off the back of another crucial victory for the Rams against relegation candidates Plymouth Argyle.

The win was the third consecutive for the Rams, who still remain in the final relegation position but are just a point from safety after the change in form.

“John Eustace has done an incredible job to sort them out, really,” The pundit claimed, adding “It took him a while to do so but as is often the case, Blackburn are finding now and as we saw last season with Birmingham, teams who lose John Eustace tend to regret it and teams who hire John Eustace tend to improve.”

Forty-five-year-old Eustace’s appointment at Derby raised a few eyebrows with the manager departing promotion-chasing Blackburn Rovers for the struggling Rams.

It was against Blackburn, on March 8, that Eustace picked up his first three points at his new club in a 2-1 win before toppling Frank Lampard’s inform Coventry City and the aforementioned Plymouth.

The wins put Derby on 38 points, one point away from Cardiff City and Stoke City with an easier run of remaining games, on paper.

Fellow podcast host Ali Maxwell added: “He is setting the team up well. He’s gone for beef at the back with (Nat) Phillips and (Matt) Clarke, legs in midfield with (Ebou) Adams and (Liam) Thompson with (Marcus) Harness and (Jerry) Yates up front. He’s getting the output from his attacking players.”

The club travels to Preston North End after the international break, on April 2, before hosting relegation-threatened Luton Town and Stoke in their remaining eight matches.
