Doug King is confident that Coventry City have ample time and resources to prepare for the Premier League, provided the Sky Blues navigate their way through the play-off challenges ahead.

After a thrilling finish to the season, Frank Lampard’s side secured their spot in the end-of-season play-offs by defeating Middlesbrough, clinching the fifth position in the league. This victory set the stage for an exciting two-legged semi-final against Sunderland, with the first match scheduled to be held at the CBS Arena on Friday, May 9. The ultimate goal? A shot at glory in the final at Wembley on Saturday, May 24.

Doug King’s Vision for the Future

In a recent interview on talkSPORT, King reflected on the season, praising Lampard’s leadership and emphasizing the importance of planning for the upcoming 2025/26 season, regardless of the club’s division. “We do a lot of work. We’ve really beefed up our recruitment team in the last two years. When I arrived, Dean Austin had just joined us, and we had him alongside another staff member,” the Sky Blues owner revealed.

“Now, we have seven or eight dedicated individuals focusing on recruitment. We invest significant effort into data analysis, scouting all leagues, as this is crucial for our strategy. I come from that industry, and it is vital for us to identify where the value lies and understand the risks involved, particularly for a Championship club. We have created multiple lists to guide our decisions.”

Preparing for Success

King remained optimistic about the time available to the club should they advance past the semi-finals. “We have plenty of time, right? If we can get through on May 24, which would be absolutely incredible, we then have a whole month to finalize our strategy. There are numerous players and options available, which is very encouraging for us moving forward.”

As fans eagerly await the upcoming matches, the focus now turns to the crucial preparations needed in the transfer window. The Sky Blues’ ambitions are clear, and with King’s solid strategy in place, the future looks promising for Coventry City.
