Doug King has been told to back Frank Lampard in the transfer market after Coventry City’s play-off heartbreak against Sunderland.
The Sky Blues were within in a few seconds of continuing their remarkable renaissance under Lampard, who took over with the club in 17th place and went within seconds of a penalty shoot-out for a place in a Wembley final.
However, Dan Ballard’s late, late header sent the Black Cats on to a showdown with Sheffield United and left Coventry City thinking about another campaign in the second tier.
And former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has told King to invest in Lampard’s squad. “I think that he [Lampard] goes again next year. It depends what his owner does,” Jordan told talkSPORT.
“If they are ambitious, then they’ll go again and give Frank some more resources. Twenty-odd million euros was spent last year on players, which is not unrespectable inside the Championship.
“I think the club is together again, the initial shock-waves about the reaction of Mark Robins being fired has long since diminished.
“Frank is part of it now, the team’s playing well, I think they can go again, but I think it’s going to be difficult for him.”

Jordan rejected that notion and backed Lampard’s tactical acumen. “You take it whilst it’s there, it’s manifest destiny. You grab what’s yours, you take it whilst you can,” he continued.
“The narrative is now being written, it’s written, which is the promoted sides are c**p. They’re all going to get 66 points aggregated over the course of the of the season, and everyone’s gonna go down with that relegation on their on their CV.
“If Frank Lampard either pushed the envelope and got them close to staying up or kept them up, his currency would have gone…
“If he went into the Premier League didn’t do the nonsense of the Russell Martins and people of that nature that stuck to a philosophy irrespective of the reality of what was in front of their bleeding’ eyes and went down with a whimper. Then no, he wouldn’t be, although I think he’s a pragmatist, Lampard. I think he’s a sensible lad.”
