Dismissal Of Mark Robins as Coventry City’s Manager Prompted Some Huge Fans Responses As Gathered Below

The dismissal of Mark Robins as Coventry City manager has prompted a huge response from pundits, players and supporters alike.

Robins was dismissed last week after seven years in charge, with Rhys Carr handed the interim head coach role until a permanent successor is confirmed. It is a decision that has been greeted with disbelief.

A run of poor results since the start of the season led to the downfall of the former Manchester United player, despite Robins achieving considerable success during his time with the club. He has two promotions, a Championship play-off final and an FA Cup semi-final on his CV from his time with Coventry – but even that was not enough to save him.

In the wake of Robins’ sacking, we commissioned a poll of Coventry City supporters to gauge their response to the move by club owner Doug King.

They were also asked if they had confidence in King, who they would like to see take over at the CBS Arena, who they held to blame for City’s poor season and whether they would like to see former assistant boss Adi Viveash now given a role at the club.

Their response came through loud and clear. Of the nearly 7,000 respondents at the time of writing, a massive 90 per cent believed the sacking was wrong, while 71 per cent said they no longer had confidence in King as club owner

Asked what had been the biggest problem for the club this season, 50 per cent blamed poor player performances, with 25 per cent citing a poor summer of transfer business and 21 percent claiming it was down to missing players who left at the end of last season. Just four per cent blamed poor management.

Asked if they would like to see Viveash brought back to the club in some capacity, 70 per cent said ‘yes’. In fact, he was top choice when fans were asked who they would like to see take over from Robins, albeit with just 28 per cent support. Second was former City player Lee Carsley, the current England interim manager, on 25 per cent – while bookies’ favourite Frank Lampard won just 7 per cent backing.
