The Detroit Pistons are completing their roster ahead of the start of the new NBA season.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Detroit intends to make Stanley Umude a two-way player.
Since signing an Exhibit 10 deal to participate in the team’s training camp ahead of the 2022 season, Umude has been a member of the Pistons organization. Apart from signing a 10-day deal with the Pistons in the middle of February, he played the bulk of last season’s games with the Motor City Cruise.
He averaged 15.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game in 27.5 minutes a game for the Cruise during the regular season. On more than six tries per game, he had a 38.5 percent three-point percentage.

The second-year guard, who began his collegiate career with South Dakota and finished with Arkansas, put on a great preseason performance for Detroit, scoring 9.3 points per game while shooting 43.8 percent from outside the arc on four tries per game. During the Pistons’ preseason victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Montreal, he finished with 18 points, five rebounds, and four made three-pointers.
Jared Rhoden and Malcolm Cazalon, who both agreed to two-way contracts with the squad in July, are now joined by Umude. In addition to the limit of 15 players under conventional NBA contracts, NBA clubs are now allowed to have up to three players on their roster at any one time under two-way contracts. Up to 50 games may be played by players having two-way contracts with their NBA franchise.
There are still 14 players on regular contracts with the Pistons. According to HoopsRumors, a team’s two-way players may only be active for a total of 90 games if it doesn’t have a complete 15-man roster. As the start of the regular season draws near, this CBA quirk incentivizes the Pistons to fill their last roster position.
As a result, the Pistons could be planning another normal roster change in light of the Umude revelation.
