Derby County’s loss at home to Millwall last time out was a ‘disastrous’ result, EFL pundit George Elek has said.
Derby County were beaten 1-0 by the Lions at Pride Park. DCFC looked on their way to a 0-0 draw before Josh Coburn struck late for the visitors.
The Rams are sat in 23rd place in the Championship table. They are inside the drop zone with Plymouth Argyle and Luton Town.
Elek has said on the Not The Top 20 Podcast on YouTube: “It was a disastrous result really for Derby, who continue to play against relatively poor sides, obviously Millwall have turned it around a bit under Alex Neil. Last time out at home it was Oxford and they drew that game 0-0 without creating a great deal, here it was Millwall and they’re sent home packing.
“It looked like it was going to be 0-0 without creating a great deal after the penalty save. John Eustace has got his work cut out. They’re almost playing at their worst at a moment where they have to be improving in order to stay up.”
Derby County latest
Derby County are four points from safety behind both Cardiff City and Hull City, who play tonight in their game in-hand.
The Rams were promoted from League One last season after finishing 2nd in the league behind Portsmouth.
It has been a tough campaign for them though and they have found the step up a division difficult.
Derby County have been struggling to score goals recently and lack creativity and a cutting edge.
They decided to sack Paul Warne earlier this winter after a poor run of results and have replaced the former Rotherham United man with John Eustace.
Eustace’s switch to the Rams from promotion chasing Blackburn Rovers has raised eyebrows across the Football League.
He lost his first match 4-0 away at QPR before their defeat against Millwall in their last outing.
What now for Derby County?
Derby County will be low on confidence after losing to the Lions late on and need to find some belief from somewhere.
Games are running out for the Rams and they have to start getting more points on the board if they are to avoid slipping into the third tier at the first time of asking.
Next up for Eustace’s side is an away trip to the Riverside Stadium to play Middlesbrough.
