Derby County Striker Opens Up On John Eustace’s Impact Following Ram’s Arrival

Derby County striker Jerry Yates has said John Eustace has brought their group ‘a lot closer’ together.

Derby County turned to the 45-year-old after sacking Paul Warne. DCFC are currently fighting to stay up in the Championship.

The Rams lost 4-0 away at QPR in his first game in charge. They were then beaten 1-0 at home by Millwall last time out.

Yates has said, as per their official club website: “He likes his group to be fully together, good camaraderie around the place. We always come out to training, all of us at exactly the same time, stuff like that. There have been quite a few adjustments really. He likes to do everything together.

“We went for a meal last week as a team, and he’s bringing the group a lot closer, I think. Also, intensity in training, has come up second to none. The intensity in training has rocketed, too. And everyone’s pushing each other every day.”

Derby County latest

Derby County are sat in the drop zone along with Luton Town and Plymouth Argyle.

The are four points from safety behind Hull City. They lost 1-0 away at Cardiff City on Tuesday night.

They were promoted from League One last season after finishing 2nd in the league behind Portsmouth. Oxford United also went up.

It has been a tough campaign for them though and they have found the step up a division difficult.

Derby County have been struggling to score goals recently and lack creativity and a cutting edge.

They decided to dismiss Warne earlier this winter after a tricky run of results and are hoping Eustace can keep them up.

Eustace’s switch to the Rams from promotion chasing Blackburn Rovers surprised many across the Football League. He has also worked at Birmingham City in the past.

After appointing him, owner David Clowes said: “I’m excited to welcome John back to Derby County. Fans will remember him for his craft, commitment and intelligence. He was a real leader.

“I’ve followed his managerial career with interest, and it’s clear he has the qualities we need to maintain our progress.”

What now for Derby County?

Derby County need to find some belief from somewhere and will be low on confidence after losing in their last outing.

Next up for Eustace’s side is an away trip to the Riverside Stadium to play Middlesbrough. Boro won 3-1 away at Stoke City last time out.
