Derby County midfielder Tyrese Fornah is back at Pride Park as Salford City confirmed their retained list.

Fornah spent the season on loan at the Ammies after expressing a desire to leave Pride Park last summer and is out of contract this summer.

The former Nottingham Forest man played more than 40 games for Karl Robinson’s side but suffered heartbreak on the final day of the campaign as they missed out on a top-seven finish.

Fornah impressed during his time at Salford who have just secured fresh investment in the guise of a new consortium spearheaded by owners David Beckham and Gary Neville.

In a statement on the club’s website, Salford confirmed Fornah would be returning and thanked the player and his parent club for their “efforts and trust”.

“Following the conclusion of the 2024-25 season Salford City can confirm its retained and released list,” the club said.

“In his first full season in charge, Karl Robinson led the Ammies to an eighth-place finish in Sky Bet League Two, finishing just a point outside of the top seven.

“We are delighted to announce that options have been triggered to extend the contracts of Supporters’ Player of the Year, Ossama Ashley; Haji Mnoga; and Luke Garbutt.

“In addition, new offers have been made to Jamie Jones, Curtis Tilt, Tosin Olopade, Hakeeb Adelakun, Alfie Henderson, Jai Curran-Nicholls and Jacob Lara.

“However, after four seasons at the Club, we can announce that Matthew Lund, Conor McAleny and Liam Shephard will be departing the Peninsula Stadium, along with Ryan Watson, who joined part way through the 2021-22 campaign. All four have made crucial contributions and been involved in some key moments during their time in M7, including reaching the play-offs in 2022-23, and move onto the next stage of their careers with our very best wishes and gratitude for their efforts and professionalism throughout their respective stays.

“Academy graduates Liam Humbles, Ben Collins, Aiden Lancaster, Eze Bowen, Matty Cucos, Jacob Hamman and Kamoy McNair will also depart at the expiration of their contracts. Jon Taylor, James Carr, Callum Morton, Jez Davies, Marcus Dackers and Sandro Da Costa will also be leaving when their deals come to an end. Thank you to all of those leaving the club for your efforts, and good luck in your future careers.

“Loanees Stephan Negru, Tyrese Fornah, Matty Young, Kylian Kouassi, Lewis Warrington and Frankie Okoronkwo have returned to their parent clubs, and we would like to thank the players and the clubs for their efforts and trust throughout the season.

“All other players remain contracted to the club.”

Fornah is one of 11 players out of contract this summer, but it is expected that he will leave the club after signing from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2023.

Derby will reinforce the middle of the pitch this summer with Ebou Adams, Ben Osborn and Kenzo Goudmijn the only contracted first-team midfielders.
