Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl is not giving up on the play-offs yet with ‘eight finals’ left to play this season.
Sheffield Wednesday can be proud of their efforts this season. While inconsistent at times, SWFC have made huge strides on the 2023/24 campaign and still have something to play for after 38 games.
The chances feel slim, but the Owls are still in with a shot at the play-offs. They sit slap bang in the middle of the Championship table in 12th, but are still just six points off the top six heading into the last eight games.
It means, although unlikely, there is still a shot for them to make it into the play-offs.
Few will be expecting them to do so, but Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl is insistent that their chances are not done yet.
As quoted by the club’s official media, the SWFC manager said ‘eight finals’ remain between now and the end of the season and they will attack every remaining opportunity to sneak into the top six before the campaign’s end.
“I’m still looking forward, we can still do something but we know our next opponents will not be easy,” the Sheffield Wednesday boss said.
“We can do it because we have eight games and that means 24 points but of course it also means we have to make a run. We must win home and away games but there is no question mark why we should attack the next position and the next game.
“One game, three points and maybe then you are closer.
“You never know. It is not easy but if there is a chance, we will attack for it.
“This is a clear message for my players now, we clean our minds and then we go into these eight finals wanting to win every game.”
The Steel City derby’s impact
Sheffield Wednesday were beaten again in the second Steel City derby of the season and you can’t help but wonder how valuable a win in that game could have been.
The Owls went into the game looking for a valuable win, one that would secure bragging rights over their rivals while breathing new life into their campaign. It would have provided the perfect foundation for them to build on going into the final stages of the season.
There was a lot of talk between Rohl and Chris Wilder before and after the game. Although the Blades came out on top, some of the Sheffield United boss’ words might have just lit a bit of a fire in the bellies of those at Hillsborough.

Once the international break is out of the way, all eyes are on the run-in for Sheffield Wednesday.
Up first is a trip to South Wales to face Cardiff City, a winnable game but one with high stakes for both. The same goes for the clash with Hull City, another relegation contender, the following weekend.
The first games after the break will be key to keeping any slim hopes of a play-off push alive, but Rohl and co will not be giving up by any means.
