Before announcing a potential comeback date for Maxi Kleber, the Mavs are currently awaiting further information on his dislocated right little toe.

Mavs coach Jason Kidd provided an update on Kleber’s injury condition before to Sunday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets, characterizing it as “day-by-day.” Before setting a return date, the team has to get further information.

“Yeah, I think it’s day-by-day,” Kidd said. “Hopefully, he feels better. He’s been shooting the ball. I think it’s just, again, day-by-day for him. And we’ll see how he feels after his workout today and see if he goes on a trip. If he does, great. If he doesn’t, he continues to rehab it.”

As early as Saturday, before their game against the Hornets, the Mavs had declared Kleber out. Kyrie Irving was the other player included on the team’s report before the game, however it was likely that he had a sprained left foot. Despite being unwell, Markieff Morris moved from being dubious to readily accessible.

This season, Kleber has averaging 18.8 minutes per game, 4.8 rebounds, 3.3 points, and 1.5 assists. After starting as a center against the San Antonio Spurs in the season opener, he has since moved off the bench to make room for youngster Dereck Lively II.

This season, Kleber has been predominantly used by the Mavs as a four-man option, but he has also been used as a stretch-five in small-ball lineups. Because of his flexibility, he continues to be a vital member of the squad, often being the go-to choice to play any position on the field.

The Mavs had a short break before playing again after their game against the Hornets. On Monday, they will play the Orlando Magic at Amway Center to finish the second leg of a back-to-back.
