Crimson Tide Head Coach Said Forward Set To miss Missouri Game With Injury

Alabama basketball will likely be without freshman forward Derrion Reid when it faces Missouri Wednesday. Crimson Tide head coach Nate Oats said Reid, who returned from injury for one game, UA’s Saturday loss to Auburn, suffered a setback with his hamstring.

Reid played five minutes in the loss Saturday.

“We thought we rested him well enough,” Oats told reporters Tuesday in Tuscaloosa. “Well, it kind of flared up again after, I mean he played limited minutes against Auburn, but he’s been out of practice. We’re checking him, he’s getting an MRI, second MRI, shoot, third one in the last few weeks, this morning I believe, so I think he’ll be listed as, probably doubtful based on not practicing yesterday and today.”

Reid had been out of Alabama’s lineup since the Tide’s Feb. 1 win over Georgia. He has played in eight games so far this season.

Oats expressed hope that Reid would continue to improve and get back on the court quickly.

“Hopefully the MRI shows up clean, maybe all the swelling, inflammation, whatever it is goes out, maybe he can go,” Oats said. “Look, Derrion’s one of our best positional size, athletic defenders, and he’s done very good jobs on different guys when he’s been healthy throughout the year. It would be great to have him.”

ESPN ranked Reid as the No. 11 recruit in the class entering Alabama. He’s one of three players on the team who earned McDonald’s All-American honors, along with Aiden Sherrell and Aden Holloway.

Oats said the Crimson Tide won’t be rushing him back into the lineup.

“I think he’s going to be a pro,” Oats said. “He came in a McDonald’s all-American, he’s got all the intangibles, as far as tough, great attitude, high IQ, he’s athletic, a lot of the stuff that pros are looking for. We really don’t want to hurt his long-term career by rushing something to win a game or two.”

Alabama and Missouri are scheduled to tip off at 8 p.m. CT Wednesday in Columbia. The game will be aired on the SEC Network.
