Coventry City’s Latest Transfer Update After Plymouth Thrashing

Frank Lampard has dropped a transfer window hint that Coventry City are preparing to “add” to the existing squad to make it even better for the second half of the season.

The Sky Blues boss has been assessing the strength of his inherited group of players since being appointed as the club’s head coach last month, and although he believes he has a talented squad capable of improving, he admits it could be made even better in certain positions.

Having taken ten points from his first six games in charge, Lampard was asked if he feels like he’s finding his feet in the role?

“Well, it’s step by step,” said the 46-year-old. “It’s important not to get too high or too low. We all felt a bit low after Portsmouth last week but I think it’s probably normal coming into these jobs where you know where we are, and for some reason you have to make them better. And it would be stupid to sit here this week and go ‘now it’s all sorted.’

“It’s a good start for us. You always want more but it’s a good start and it’s always a case of, now what’s in front of us. The more we work with the players, hopefully the more they understand exactly what we want from them and we can build confidence and consistency in that work. And that’s why today was good because even when it became clear what the result was going to be (4-0 at the break), in the second half they still kept doing good things.

“That’s important, to be really consistent in behaviours on and off the pitch, so I’m not getting carried away but it was another nice step.”

Asked if the next step is finding that consistency, he replied: “Sure, and it’s easier said than done because the next one is a big challenge. Millwall come here (on Sunday) and always give you a difficult game. Then we travel to Cardiff, then we travel to Norwich and we all know this league is so hard, so it’s better not to predict the future and get too caught up in it. You take each game on and you try and improve as a group.”

He added: “We have belief in the group and we want to get better. I think there’s uplift with what we have and then it’s a question of will we add to it and make it even better in positions? We’ll see. But in terms of the performance today it was a nice step in the right direction. It’s good for players to feel that and they need to continue with that.”
