Coventry City have signed midfielder Matt Grimes from Swansea City on a three-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
29-year-old Grimes started his career at Exeter City, making over 60 appearances before earning a move to then-Premier League side Swansea in 2015.
He featured in the top flight and had loan spells with Blackburn Rovers, Leeds United, and Northampton Town before returning to Swansea in 2018.
Since then, Grimes has been a key figure in midfield, missing just four Championship games in over six years. He was named Swansea captain in 2019 and made a total of 467 career appearances, scoring 25 goals and providing 52 assists.
Coventry City head coach Frank Lampard expressed his excitement about the signing:
“I would like to welcome Matt to Coventry City. He is a player that I have really admired for a long time and his fantastic all-round midfield qualities and experience will be a great addition to the team.”
Club owner and executive chairman Doug King added: “Matt is a fantastic player whom we have admired for a long time and we are delighted he has made the decision to join our club. We wish him every success.”
