Coventry City Issue Club Statement On Flag Warning Ahead Of Sunderland Play Off

With Coventry City’s crunch first leg Championship Play Off tie completely sold out, the club has issued a warning regarding flags as part of its match day guide. The Sky Blues will be eager to gain an advantage over rivals Sunderland in the first match between the pair on Friday (9 May).

Though fans are encourage to wear their colours proud and “create a sea of Sky Blue,” flags that are larger than 2m by 1m, or contain offensive messages, are not permitted.

However, the club has confirmed the flags issued to fans for the Wembley fixtures from last season and the year before can be taken in.

The club states on its website: “The Club is aware that fans may want to bring flags and banners to Friday’s game such as flags from the Club’s previous Wembley matches. We can confirm that these flags will be allowed into the Arena on Saturday.

“Supporters wishing to create a sea of Sky Blue on Friday again, which looked so amazing last Saturday, are encouraged to do so, however fans in hospitality must continue to adhere to the dress code in these areas (i.e. no replica shirts).”

The Coventry Building Society Arena’s list of items that fans cannot bring into the stadium includes flags or banners that are larger than 2m by 1m or are offensive.

The rest of the list includes:

  • Glasses
  • Weapons
  • Airhorns
  • Narcotics
  • Fireworks and Flares
  • Bottles and Cans
  • Cameras
  • Long Umbrellas
  • Food and Drink
  • Flagpoles
  • Smoking and E-Cigarettes
  • Selfie Sticks
  • Baby Buggies/Prams
  • Large Bags/Suitcases
  • Computer Tablets
