Coventry City Boss Frank Lampard Makes Hull City Weakness Review

Coventry City manager Frank Lampard admits he was aware of Hull City’s issues at the start of the second half in games after watching his side become the latest to take advantage of the Tigers’ slow start.

For the third time in the four games since the international break, City conceded inside the opening 10 minutes of the second half, with Matt Grimes the latest to take full advantage with a scrambled volley which hit Charlie Hughes and found its way into the back of the net just a minute in.

That goal comes on the back of Luton Town scoring just seconds into the second period when Lewie Coyle’s attempted clearance hit Alfie Jones and beat Ivor Pandur, the only goal of that game, and then at Watford last Tuesday night, Moussa Sissoko scored early.

In total, City have conceded 10 of their 50 goals inside the opening 10 minutes of the second period, leaving boss Ruben Selles frustrated and determined to try and fix a glaring issue.

Though Lampard says it wasn’t a massive tactical focus, he says it was something that his analysts picked up in their preparation for facing the Tigers.

“Yes, we were aware of that,” Lampard told Hull Live when asked if it was something they looked to try and take advantage of. “We had it in our heads, but every game is different. We’ve scored a lot of goals at the end of the games, and I don’t expect us to score at the end. It’s like a culmination of how you play, so I didn’t really consider that too much, but we were aware of it.”

While disappointed with the point at the MKM Stadium, Lampard praised goalkeeper Ivor Pandur, who made a string of good saves throughout and was awarded the Man of the Match. “You respect Hull, and they’re fighting. I think the goalkeeper certainly played well,” he added.
