Collingwood Coach Craig McRae Provides Latest Update On Injured Magpies Duo

Collingwood coach Craig McRae has provided an update on injured Magpies pair Patrick Lipinski and Lachie Schultz, after both players finished the game on the sidelines for respective concerns.

Lipinski was concussed in the third term by Hawthorn’s Lloyd Meek after the Hawks ruckman collided into the Collingwood midfielder in a late spoil attempt.

While Lipinski initially remained on the ground to kick his goal from the 50-metre penalty, the 26-year-old came from the field and failed a head injury assessment and was subbed off for the rest of the game.

McRae said he initially thought Lipinski would be okay to play out the game, but the concussion test revealed the opposite to be the case.

“I just missed Pat unfortunately, I was hoping to catch him, but hopefully he’s okay,” McRae said.

“Early signs when he came to the bench after the incident he looked okay to me, and then he failed the test, so obviously he wasn’t good enough to come back on.

“He’ll go into protocols, and hopefully he’s okay.”

McRae also revealed Schultz suffered a minor hamstring blow late in the fourth quarter, and admitted he may miss the King’s Birthday clash too, despite the 10-day break.

“He’s got a minor hamstring, which is the second time round,” McRae said.

“Not major, minor, but still we’ve got 10 days into Melbourne, then the bye, but I think we’ll be a bit cautious with Lachie.

“He’s had a bit of time out now, and he’s an important part of what we’re doing. So we’ll make sure we get that right.”

Following the King’s Birthday clash and Round 14 bye, the Pies will face St Kilda, West Coast, and Carlton.

Friday night’s win places Collingwood back atop the ladder, and a handy run home could see the black and white primed for a minor premiership tilt.
