Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen has now claimed that he is in regular contact with another Premier League manager.
He told Voetbal Primeur that he is still in touch with Vincent Kompany after spending a season on loan with his side in the Championship.
Maatsen was very close to spending the upcoming years of his career under the Premier League legend at Turf Moor.
Chelsea accepted a bid for his services on deadline day of the summer transfer window from Burnley, with them looking to cash in on an academy graduate who was yet to make a competitive appearance.
For whatever reason, the Dutchman rejected the move, instead focusing on his attempts to break into the first team setup at Stamford Bridge.
He has proven to be a popular player for Mauricio Pochettino since he arrived, stemming back to a great spell in pre-season in the United States.
The 21-year-old was a crucial player for his club then, however that has not carried into the domestic campaign.
With his future at an uncertain stage right now, Maatsen has claimed that he is still in regular contact with his former manager.
He said: “In the meantime, I have to keep all options open. I may have to make difficult choices later, but then the club will indicate that.
”This doesn’t mean I’m mad at you [Kompany after Maatsen rejected Burnley]. We’ll continue to keep an eye on you.’ We still have contact from time to time.”
At this stage, it looks like the defender’s time at the club is coming to an end, with him falling down the pecking order during this season.
The injured Ben Chilwell, Marc Cucurella and even natural centre-back Levi Colwill all sit ahead of him in the order to start at Stamford Bridge right now.
