The Boston Celtics extended their series with the New York Knicks to six games. Following their impressive blowout Game 5 win over the Knicks without Jayson Tatum, the Celtics hope to return the series to Boston for a Game 7.
Before they cross that bridge, the question will be who will be available for Game 6. The Celtics have had multiple players dealing with injuries and ailments, including Tatum, Sam Hauser, and Kristaps Porzingis.
Porzingis has been under a microscope because of previous confirmation that he has continued to deal with an illness that affected him back in March during the playoffs. On Thursday, the Celtics released their injury report for Game 6 to confirm Porzingis’ status.
The Athletic’s Jared Weiss reported the latest on the Celtics’ injury report via his X account, including Porzingis’ status for Game 6.
“The Celtics have a clean injury list outside of Jayson Tatum,” Weiss wrote. “No more designation for Sam Hauser, who returned from his ankle sprain, and none for Kristaps Porziņģis, who was benched for the second half last night due to his illness, but was available in an emergency.”
Even though Porzingis will be available, the Celtics might not play him big minutes if his illness continues to be a problem. During this Knicks series, he’s averaged 4.2 points and 3.4 rebounds while shooting 23.8% from the field and 14.3% from three.
Those are a far cry from what Porzingis has put up as a Celtic. The Celtics can try to get him going, but they’ve tried that in all five games of this series and haven’t gotten much from him.
