Catalans Dragons sign fullback from Hull KR

Phoenix Laulu-Togaga'e enjoying Oldham return – Total Rugby League

Catalans Dragons have been the busiest team in Super League so far, when it comes to finalising and announcing their new recruits for 2026. Now, they have added another player, in what is their 10th recruit this off-season.

The Dragons spine is what let them down massively last year, as they finished ninth in the Super League table.

Injuries to Sam Tomkins caused full-back problems, whilst Arthur Mourgue’s mid-season move to Hull KR dealt them a further blow. At hooker, the experiment to use captain Ben Garcia in the role failed too, meaning there was a whole heap of confusion and not a lot of consistency in the Dragons attack.

They have already gone some way in rectifying that problem, with halves duo Toby Sexton and Lewis Dodd making up two of their signings for next year. Now, though, they have continued to work on fixing that core part of the squad, after announcing a full-back will join their ranks ahead of next year.

Hull KR’s Phoenix Laulu-Togaga’e will be a Catalans player in 2026, penning a one-year deal with the Perpignan-based outfit. Despite not making a senior appearance for the Robins since 2023, the speedster has been lighting up the lower divisions at Oldham, scoring 29 tries in 46 appearances for the club.

Laulu-Togaga’e, who can also play in the halves, had a contract at the Grand Final winners until the end of next season, but has now been released from that deal to join the French side. The 22-year-old is the son of former Samoa international and a veteran of the English game, Quentin, and will be hoping for another crack at the top flight next season.

Currently, the only other recognised full-back at the club is Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet, who performed admirably in his maiden Super League year. It is unknown who will be the recognised number one for Joel Tomkins’ side next year, but a strong pre-season from the former Robin could cement his place as first-choice.
