Castleford Tigers have found a new full-back after the Tex Hoy decision as Ryan Carr shake-up continues

Castleford Tigers make Tex Hoy decision as recruitment plans outlined | Love Rugby League

Castleford Tigers have confirmed that full-back, Tex Hoy, has left the club to “pursue opportunities elsewhere”.

The 26-year-old, who has been at the club for the past one a half seasons, still had 12 months left on his current deal, but he will no longer see that out, with the Tigers announcing his exit, effective immediately.

Joining from Hull FC, Hoy made 24 appearances for the Black and Whites before making a mid-season switch in 2024. For Castleford, he has featured 35 times, and has scored 13 tries and kicked 20 goals.

His signing caught the eye of many when he came to Super League in 2023, however it is fair to say he has failed to live up to expectations, after previously being one of Newcastle Knights’ best emerging talents.

Hoy is now one of many players to exit Wheldon Road despite still being under contract, with the likes of Innes Senior, Liam Horne (both Leigh Leopards) and Sam Wood (York Knights) all departing earlier than expected.

His exit now means that Castleford have one overseas quota spot to use, having previously been full to the cap. The club have already brought in six overseas recruits this off-season, including Mikaele Ravalawa and Semi Valemei.

The club have already found themselves a new full-back, and one that they will hope can give them more attacking threat. Blake Taaffe joins from the NRL, signing a three-year deal. Castleford also have youngster Fletcher Rooney tied down long term, so they are in good hands when it comes to filling the Hoy-shaped hole left in the squad.

In a brief statement posted by the club on social media, they said:

“Castleford Tigers can confirm that Tex Hoy has been released from the final year of his contract to pursue playing opportunities elsewhere.”

“We wish Tex all the best for the future and thank him for his service to Castleford Tigers.”
