Bristol Rovers Stance On Recalling On Loan Players

Bristol Rovers plan to keep goalkeeper Jed Ward out on loan at Forest Green Rovers for as long as possible, as detailed in a report by BristolLive.

Bristol Rovers let the stopper join the National League side in late July to get some more experience under his belt. He has made a solid start to life in Gloucestershire and has made 11 league appearances already this season.

Ward, 21, is getting plenty of game time at The New Lawn and will be benefitting from getting regular football in the fifth tier. Forest Green Rovers are sat in 3rd position at the moment behind Barnet and York City under the guidance of former Bristol City boss Steve Cotterill.

In this latest update regarding his situation, BristolLive claim the Gas have no plans to bring him back to the Memorial Ground anytime soon, despite their lack of depth in his position, and are happy with his progress.

Bristol Rovers loan latest

Bristol Rovers’ current number one is West Brom loanee Josh Griffiths but Matthew Hall is his only back-up.

Ward needs to stay with Forest Green Rovers though for the sake of his development though, as opposed to sitting on the bench in League One.

He has been on the books of the Gas for his whole career to date and has risen up through their academy ranks.

The ‘keeper was a regular at various different youth levels before stepping up into the first-team set-up.

Ward has since made 24 appearances for Bristol Rovers in all competitions to date, 19 of which came in the last campaign.

He has also been loaned out in the past to Swindon Supermarine, Prescot Cables, Hungerford Town and Wealdstone in the past.

What now?

Bristol Rovers need to start picking up some more results after a slow start to this term under former Exeter City and Rotherham United manager Matt Taylor.

They are sat down in 20th place in the table and are only above the drop zone by a point after only two wins from their first seven games.

The Gas lost 3-2 away at Peterborough United last time out ahead of their next match against Wycombe Wanderers at home.
