Blue Devil Trio Garners D1Softball, Softballamerica All-America Honors

The Blue Devil trio of seniors Claire Davidson and Jala Wright and sophomore Aminah Vega were named to the 2024 D1Softball and SoftballAmerica All-America teams, as announced by the organizations Tuesday.

Davidson, Wright and Vega each captured first team honors from SoftballAmerica. Davidson highlighted the Blue Devils’ D1Softball All-America selections after earning first team recognition, while Wright and Vega garnered second team nods.

Davidson continues to power the Blue Devils’ offense, leading the team in batting average (.439), home runs (18), doubles (19), runs scored (62) and RBI (67).  The Lakewood Ranch, Fla., native is one of six players to have started all 54 games this season, primarily in the outfield. Her 67 RBI on the year ranks seventh in the NCAA and has set a Duke single-season record. The senior was unanimously voted ACC Player of the Year and named to the ACC All-Tournament team after guiding Duke to its second ACC Softball Championship title on May 11. Davidson was also one of 15 players to be selected in the 2024 Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball Draft.

Vega has been strong for the Blue Devils at the plate, batting .381 with 20 multi-hit games this season. The DeBary, Fla., native has seen action in 57-of-59 games this season and sits second on the team in home runs (12), doubles (18) and RBI (52). The starting second baseman earned NFCA All-Region honors for the second time in her career after being named to the first team last week and second team in 2023. Vega was also voted the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and named to the ACC All-Tournament team.

Wright has been stout for the Blue Devils in her final season in the circle, holding an 19-2 record after 33 appearances. She owns a 1.28 ERA, which ranks seventh nationally, and has registered 187 strikeouts in 153.1 innings. In the regular season finale against NC State, Wright fanned a game-high six batters to push her past the 400-career strikeout milestone. The Charlotte, N.C., native now has 434 to her name in 410.1 career innings of work. Wright was unanimously voted ACC Pitcher of the Year and was selected as the ACC Tournament MVP, joining Peyton St. George as the only Blue Devils to receive the honor. The senior also earned NFCA All-Region First Team recognition.
