Blackburn Rovers will ‘assess’ Joe Rankin-Costello ahead of the weekend, Valerien Ismael has said.
Blackburn Rovers had to take him off against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night. Rovers ended up drawing 2-2 with SWFC after goals by Tyrhys Dolan and Yuki Ohashi and came back from 2-0 down at Ewood Park.
Rankin-Costello, 25, was substituted during the game and youngster Kristi Montgomery came on to replace him. He will now need to be checked on over the coming days ahead of his side’s trip to Luton Town this weekend.
In this latest update regarding his condition, Ismael has said, as per a report by Lancashire Telegraph: “Joe got a problem with his adductor, so we will assess him. We didn’t want to take any risk because he was limping. But we will see tomorrow. We’ll have a clear picture.”
Blackburn Rovers are sat in 12th place in the Championship table. They are seven points off the play-offs with five fixtures left to play.
Blackburn Rovers injury latest regarding Joe Rankin-Costello
Blackburn Rovers will hope that Rankin-Costello isn’t now poised for a spell on the sidelines and that he can return to full fitness as soon as possible.
He has been a regular again for the Lancashire outfit this season and has made 32 appearances in all competitions, 29 of which have come in the league, and he has chipped in with two goals and two assists.
The versatile player is under contract with his current club until the summer of 2027.
Rankin-Costello has been on the books of Rovers since joining them as a youngster back in 2014. Prior to his move, he spent time in the academy set-up at Manchester United.
The Stockport-born man rose up through the ranks at Blackburn Rovers and was a regular for them at various different youth levels.
He made his debut in 2017 and broke into the first-team properly a couple of years later.
Rankin-Costello has since played over 100 matches and has become a useful player to call upon over recent years.
What now for Blackburn Rovers?
It has been a tough past couple of months for Blackburn Rovers since John Eustace left for Derby County.
Ismael, who has managed the likes of Barnsley, West Brom and Watford in the past, has struggled to make an impact and is yet to win.
They are back in action on Saturday against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.
