Birmingham City Owner Tom Wagner Issued a Message To Fans, Staff, And Players With Promotion In Sight

Tom Wagner has urged his Birmingham City team to “keep right on” in line with their club anthem as Blues edged closer to promotion with their 2-0 win over Leyton Orient.

The O’s had been one of the form teams in the third tier, but even they couldn’t match the strength of Chris Davies’ side on Tuesday evening.

An early red card for Jack Currie quickly put Orient on the back foot, and although it took Birmingham some time to break through, they eventually found the net in the second half as Kieran Dowell’s shot was palmed away by Josh Keeley and Taylor Gardner-Hickman gleefully tapped home.

Blues continued to control the game and in the final 10 minutes they found their second as Christoph Klarer’s precise through ball found Ethan Laird, who scored his second league goal by firing in at the near post.

This maintained Blues’ unbeaten home record and means it has now been 17 league games since their last defeat – a 3-2 loss away at Shrewsbury Town.

Tom Wagner issues message to Birmingham City

Taking to Instagram after the game, Birmingham City owner Wagner issued a message to fans, staff, and players alike as he reposted the club’s social media graphic of the win, stating: “Positive way to start the week. Keep right on!!”

The 55-year-old has overseen everything at St Andrew’s this season and will be pleased to see his League One super squad excelling at the top of the division.

With Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham both struggling to keep pace after a string of mediocre results, Birmingham now hold a nine-point cushion over second place and a 12-point lead over third.

League One Table 1st-3rd
Pos Team P GD Pts
1 Birmingham City 31 +34 73
2 Wycombe Wanderers 32 +27 64
3 Wrexham AFC 32 +20 61

This will be a difficult one to squander, and with a six-pointer on Saturday against the Chairboys, they will hope to affirm their place at the top by seeing off Mike Dodds’ men.

Of course, a number of points are still required, but even if they can’t maintain the same pace they have set for most of the campaign, it’s likely they will still have enough to get over the line.

League One has been plain sailing for Birmingham City

Relegation to the third tier was never what Wagner envisaged, but this season has seemingly galvanised the Blues.

The major spending in the transfer window was always going to place pressure on them, and it’s fair to say that Chris Davies’ men have lived up to the hype.

Even when not at their best, they have had enough, and despite injuries hampering them, every player has shown their worth.

The final 15 fixtures of the season will be their last step, and they will have their eyes on breaking multiple points records in League One.
