Birmingham City Boss Chris Davies Salutes Loanee After His Bold Responsibility Request

Gutsy Kieran Dowell demanded responsibility at Birmingham City as boss Chris Davies saluted the Rangers loanee’s quality to smash home a vital winning penalty.

The midfielder is on loan at the Blues from Ibrox until the end of the season and has established himself as a key contributor – a trait he underlined with his perfect spot-kick to down Lincoln City and edge Brum closer to promotion back to the Championship. And his game-winner earned him a shove from Ben Davies as his fellow Rangers loanee sent him towards fans inside St Andrew’s. And boss Chris Davies loves what Dowell is about as he made the difference when it mattered most.

Speaking after the win, Davies said: “I thought Jay was going to take it but I’m comfortable with them deciding on the pitch who takes it, that’s ultimately their decision – as long as they’re not fighting over it and they weren’t. It was pretty clear that Kieran was going to take it and Jay was OK with that. It was a high quality penalty. When you put penalties high like that and get good speed and good accuracy on it, it was a really good penalty.”
