Barcelona could join the race to sign a Tottenham player this summer transfer window, according to a recent report.
There’s expected to be wholesale change at Tottenham this window as Ange Postecoglou looks to reshape his squad.
The former Celtic man could offload as many as 10 players, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur the rumoured departures at this stage.
Though, a 2021 Tottenham signing is now attracting interest from Barcelona and could leave the club.
Barcelona considering Tottenham defender Emerson Royal
According to Mundo Deportivo, via Foot Mercato, Barcelona could move to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal.
The Catalan giants sold the Brazilian full-back to Spurs during the summer of 2021 but as they look to add a right-back to their ranks, it seems they’re now considering resigning him.
Emerson is expected to depart the club this summer, anyhow, with Milan currently in pole position to acquire his signature.
But as Barca seek to replace Joao Cancelo, who may not return, Emerson’s name emerged on their shortlist and they could now launch a bid.
Tottenham’s asking price
Tottenham are willing to sanction the sale of Emerson if a bid worth £21m arrives.
At this stage, that is proving to be a stumbling block for AC Milan who are eager to strike a deal for less than that figure.
Daniel Levy is a tough negotiator, so it’s unlikely the 25-year-old will be allowed to go for less than that which will perhaps leave the door open for Barcelona to steal a march on his signature.
However, Barca’s first right-back target remains Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka – who is a completely different profile.
United will certainly want to recoup at least half of the £50m they outlaid on him, which could be an issue for the Catalan giants as they remain on a somewhat limited budget.
