Sheffield Wednesday Boss Danny Rohl Makes Coventry City Point Verdict

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Röhl claimed football is “horrible at times” after he felt that his side dominated Coventry City, insisting a point was the least that they should have got.

The Owls battled back from a first half Ellis Simms’ header, with a helping hand from a Joel Latibeaudiere own goal as the game looked to be heading for a draw at Hillsborough.

However, there was late drama when home goalkeeper James Beadle fumbled a catch in injury time that allowed Simms to make it 2-1, and there was no time for the hosts to mount another comeback.

“When you look to the game, we controlled it, we dominated it and we were the better side,” bemoaned the German boss. “We had a lot of good opportunities, a lot of chances, and I think all the data is for us and ahead of Coventry. But this is football, to take something you have to be clinical in both boxes.

“I’m disappointed about the first conceded goal, again a situation with a crossed ball, defending in the right areas we can double up – we don’t stop the cross, then it was a good header. But I felt like my team was not shocked or anything, we carried on and created on the front foot. We fully deserved our equaliser.

“Normally you have to take a minimum of a point, even with that I wouldn’t have been so happy, but in the end it’s football. Nobody will ask how the game was, they’ll only look at the result, and that was 2-1 to Coventry.”

He added: “Football is horrible sometimes. In seven days to have two such late setbacks is hard to take. I think today except from the two conceded goals we did everything right; front foot, high intensity, the shots we get, we created a lot of opportunities, set pieces, ball possession. On the pitch, from the bench I cannot complain or blame something.

“What I can do is be disappointed about the first goal, again no pressure on the ball… And then I think after the goal my team carried on, it felt like nothing happened, we created chances, moments, opportunities. Second half Coventry had one header and one long shot which was blocked. That was it. We cannot speak about our defence, we can speak about individual mistakes that cost us too many points.

“When I see what we have to invest to score and how we have to play, today I felt we were always in a flow. We had good timing we broke lines. A lot of good things. Even when Coventry dropped deeper and deeper we found solutions. But it is about results and in the end we did not get the result we deserved today.”
