Frank Lampard will monitor Tatsuhiro Sakamoto ahead of the weekend after the Coventry City winger left Cardiff limping on New Year’s Day.
The Japanese wide man scored the Sky Blues’ equaliser in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw in the Welsh capital but picked up an ankle injury late on in the game when he had a shot denied by a strong block tackle in the box.
Asked if his players came through the game unscathed, the City boss said: “I hope so, although Tats is limping around a bit because he had a bang on his ankle when he tried to shoot at the end. So we’ll just have to monitor him.
“In certain positions we have more cover than others but we do need Tats because he’s a winger and we already have Haji and Ephron out.
“I’ve tried to be a manager who doesn’t shout from the rooftops about those things but they are big attacking threats for us and I haven’t had Hadji. So that will change the picture for what we can do here in terms of the starting selections and what we can add to games in games in certain areas where we’re not so flush, but we have to continue to find a way.”
Providing an update on Wright’s comeback, the City boss revealed the USA striker could be available very soon, saying: “We’re looking at next week on the grass.”
City’s next game after this weekend’s trip to Carrow Road is the FA Cup third round match against Sheffield Wednesday, with Bristol City the next Championship match after that on January 18 at the CBS Arena, which might be a more realistic fixture for him to be back involved.
