Coventry City Midfielder Victor Torp Opens Up On His Commitment Under Frank Lampard

Coventry City midfielder Victor Torp has admitted he is constantly looking to ‘absorb’ as much as he can from Frank Lampard, after watching him shine as a player in the Premier League.

Tipsbladet have an interview with the Coventry midfielder today in which he heaps praise on his current manager.

Lampard was appointed as Coventry’s new head coach at the end of November after the surprise departure of Mark Robins earlier this year.

It’s the latest step into management for the former Chelsea star after he retired in 2017 following previous spells with Derby County, Chelsea, Everton and then Chelsea again as caretaker manager.

The job is very much Lampard’s latest attempt to get his managerial career on track, with his spell at Everton and then as caretaker manager at Stamford Bridge not doing anything to enhance his reputation in that regard.

Of course, it would take some career to match the success he enjoyed as a player when he was one of the finest midfielders of his generation and established himself as an undisputed Premier League legend.

Torp is more than aware of that history and is determined to learn as much as he can from Lampard while they’re together at Coventry.

“I thought it was exciting. I know him as a midfielder and one of those you have seen play in the Premier League,” he said.

“I have of course also followed his time as manager of both Everton and Chelsea. When I heard about it, I was really just looking forward to working with him and his team.

“Maybe there was something the first time you saw him where you thought it was a bit wild. After that it’s something completely different because of the type he is.

“He is very down to earth and at eye level. It’s not something you think about on a daily basis that he was the player he was. For me, he is my coach, who I try to learn from and absorb from.

“So, it is clear that there are some things from his career that you can hopefully learn something from.

“As a player, he probably scored a double-digit number of goals in many seasons in the Premier League, and it’s things like this that I try to absorb: When do you go into the box and where should you stand in the box? I also think that he is good at passing it on, and I think that is great!”
