The Memphis Grizzlies star Morant raised eyebrows on Sunday night with a difficult-to-believe post to his X page. The post from Morant read, “trigger” along with a blue-heart emoji. Morant gave no further context at the time.
Coming from Morant, the post went viral for all the wrong reasons. Since Morant has now twice been suspended by the NBA for flashing a gun on social media, the surface optics of his post were definitely not great.

But in a subsequent post on Monday afternoon, Morant shared more information. Morant apparently just lost somebody close to him, and “trigger” was a reference to the person’s nickname.
“rip papa,” Morant wrote. “LLTrigger.”

For the 24-year-old Morant, his reputation still precedes him at this point, especially since he wasn’t able to redeem himself much this season, going down with a year-ending shoulder injury just nine games after returning from his latest suspension. But Morant is working hard to put all that behind him and recently made a major off-court business change too.
