Almost every team aims to build a roster that has a shot at winning the World Series. For the Phillies to return to the Fall Classic for the first time since 2022, they must make changes, especially in the outfield.

Per Todd Zolecki of MLB.com, Philadelphia president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski thinks the team’s infield is set for 2025 with 1B Bryce Harper, 2B Bryson Stott, 3B Alec Bohm and SS Trea Turner.

However, Dombrowski couldn’t say the same for the outfield, where the team could feature a different look in 2025. The outfield was a big problem for the Phillies in 2024. Outside of Nick Castellanos (23 HRs, 86 RBI), they didn’t get nearly the production they needed, especially from left and center field.

Here are three outfielders and an infielder whom the Phillies could target in the offseason:

CF Cody Bellinger | Chicago Cubs

Bellinger might be difficult to sign because he would need to opt out of his current contract with the Cubs first. In February, Chicago signed him to a three-year, $80M contract.

In 2024, Bellinger played in 130 games, tallied 18 home runs and 78 RBI and hit .266. The Phillies also need a player who can hit left-handed pitching well. Against lefties this season, Bellinger hit .298 with four home runs and 32 RBI.

Former MLB GM Jim Bowden, who writes for The Athletic, recently named Bellinger a good fit for the Phillies.

LF Jurickson Profar | San Diego Padres

Profar, 31, is another good outfield option who hits lefties well. He also is an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2024, Profar played in 158 games, tallying 24 home runs and 85 RBI and hitting .280. Against left-handed pitching in 2024, Profar hit eight home runs, collected 31 RBI and hit .300.  

LF Teoscar Hernandez | Los Angeles Dodgers

Hernandez is 32 and a pending unrestricted free agent.
In 2024, Hernandez played in 154 games, tallying 33 home runs and 99 RBI and batting .272. Against lefties in 2024, Hernandez hit 11 home runs, drove in 28 and hit .290 for the NL champions.

It’s unlikely the Dodgers would let him go, but if they do, the Phillies should pounce.

3B Alex Bregman | Houston Astros

Should Bohm — the subject of trade speculation — be traded this offseason, Bregman is a third baseman the Phillies may consider to replace him.

Bregman, an unrestricted free agent this offseason, is the kind of player the Phillies could use when it comes to showing up in the playoffs and situational hitting. In the 2024 postseason for the Astros, Bregman went 3-for-8. With runners in scoring position, he hit six home runs and tallied 50 RBI in 2024.

Bregman is only 30, making him a good target for the Phillies. In 2024, he played in 145 games, tallied 26 home runs and 75 RBI and hit .260. Bregman is also solid defensively (10 errors in 2024).

Per Brian McTaggert of MLB.com. the Astros are reluctant to offer players contracts beyond six years, which might be what Bregman seeks.

Per Michael Shapiro of the Houston Chronicle, “Bregman is a star in the field. He’s proficient at the plate, and perhaps at his best in the clubhouse and dugout. Houston won’t write any player a blank check in free agency. For a player of Bregman’s caliber, not bending from a six-year edict could prove foolish.”

So perhaps Philadelphia’s chances of landing Bregman are slim.
