The Sky Blues boss has praised the club’s hierarchy for staying calm and says he’s “humbled” by the fans for sticking with him through a difficult spell, including when his side were losing 2-0 at home to Luton Town in the first half of Saturday’s match, which the players went on to win 3-2.

City started really brightly against the Hatters but conceded a 14th minute penalty, from which Carlton Morris gave the visitors the lead, before Elijah Adebayo doubled the advantage before the break. Haji Wright then popped up with a stoppage time winner from another Rudoni centre that was flicked on by Simms to lift the roof off the stadium.

Asked about the first half support when the chips were down in terms of the scoreline but when the fans could see his players were performing well, Robins said: “It really is humbling because there’s no doubt about it, it happens every year and I turn around and I could so easily have lost my job. I could so easily have lost my job and the fact that I haven’t had pressure from anybody here… You know, the supporters have been absolutely amazing and I will give everything I possibly can do to get us to where we want to get to.

“But I have got to manage that, and manage it through the difficult periods as well as the periods that we have had that have been outstanding and nearly incredible against Luton Town the last time we played them at Wembley Stadium. The outcome was slightly different to this one and I am grateful to everyone who has played the part and helped us get over the line today because it should give us a load of confidence moving into the next one.”
