McLaren have released a statement after they were instructed to make changes to their rear wing at the Singapore Grand Prix. The Woking-based team have requested that the FIA also look into their rivals’ components.
Andrea Stella’s team were put under the spotlight after Oscar Piastri’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix victory when footage circulating social media showed the MCL38’s rear wing flexing under load to create a ‘mini-DRS’ effect.
Constructors’ Championship rivals Red Bull complained to the FIA about the component – which passed scrutineering checks in Baku – and in Singapore the decision was made to outlaw McLaren’s design.
In response to the news, McLaren released a statement reading: “Whilst our Baku rear wing complies with the regulations and passes all FIA deflection tests, McLaren have proactively offered to make some minor adjustments to the wing following our conversations with the FIA.
“We would also expect the FIA to have similar conversations with other teams in relation to the compliance of their rear wings.”
According to a report from Autosport, McLaren aren’t the only team under investigation for their rear wings with two other teams being probed by the FIA over their designs.
Chief designed Rob Marshall confirmed as much, stating: “I wouldn’t say they’re exploiting it less than McLaren. I wouldn’t say McLaren are exploiting it.
