The Denver Nuggets have signed guard Jamal Murray to a multi-year contract extension, General Manager Calvin Booth announced today.
Murray averaged 21.2 points, 6.5 assists and 4.1 rebounds, while shooting 48.1% from the field and 42.5% from three in 31.5 minutes per game last season, eclipsing or matching career-highs in points per game, assists per game, FG% and 3FG%. He was one of three players to average 20+ points and six assists on 40%+ three-point shooting (James, Brunson) and had 10 games with 10+ assists, marking more than his last three seasons combined.
Murray missed the entire 2021-22 season due to injury and has appeared 125 games (all starts) in the two seasons following, holding averages of 20.5 points, 6.3 assists and 4.0 rebounds on 46.7% shooting from the field and 41.0% from three in 32.2 minutes per game. Among Nuggets franchise history, Murray ranks first in three-point field goals (990), seventh in total assists (2160), eighth in total points (8187) and ninth in total field goals (3020).
The 27-year-old is one of eight players with multiple 50-point playoff games in NBA history and in 65 career playoff games has posted 24.2 points, 6.2 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 38.8 minutes per game. Murray has averaged at least 20 points in each of his four playoff appearances and ranks second in points, second in assists and second in 30-point games in Nuggets postseason franchise history. He also averaged 21.4 points, 10.0 assists, 6.2 rebounds and 1.0 steals while shooting 45.1% from the field and 38.7% from three in five games during the 2023 NBA finals, helping Denver lift the Larry O’Brien trophy for the first time in franchise history.
The Kitchener, Ontario native was drafted by the Nuggets with the seventh overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft and has appeared in 469 career games (395 starts) averaging 17.5 points, 4.5 assists and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 45.2% from the field and 38.0% from three in 30.7 minutes per game.
