The Green Bay Packers signed two players and released two players from the practice squad entering Week 2 of the 2024 season.
The team announced the signing of tight end Johnny Lumpkin and receiver TJ Luther to the practice squad and the release of running back La’Mical Perine and receiver Jalen Wayne from the practice squad.
Lumpkin (6-5, 264) went undrafted out of Louisiana in 2023. He’s spent time with the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos. In 2022, Lumpkin caught 16 passes for 143 yards and four scores. The Packers needed extra depth at tight end after losing Messiah Swinson from the practice squad last week
Luther (5-11, 189) went undrafted out of Gardner-Webb in 2023. He’s spent time with the New York Jets, Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers. During his final collegiate season in 2022, Luther caught 63 passes for 1,166 yards and eight touchdowns. He was one of several receivers to work out for the Packers on Monday.
Perine was signed to provide veteran insurance at running back for Week 1, but the Packers got a terrific performance from Emanuel Wilson and picked Ellis Merriweather to elevate from the practice squad in Brazil.
The Packers face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2.
