Norwich City have had their bid to loan Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo rejected according to reports.
The Norfolk club are on the search for more depth in their squad following the news that Abu Kamara has handed in a transfer request. The former Portsmouth winger is on the radar of a number of Championship clubs, with Hull City thought to be in pole position for his signature.
Matondo has also been monitored by multiple second-tier sides, with Leeds United known to be another club interested in the 23-year-old. Daniel Farke’s team were initially interested in Norwich’s Jonathan Rowe, but lost out to Ligue 1 side Marseille.
According to The Daily Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, City have been rejected in their approach for the Welsh winger. He would be a direct replacement for Rowe following his season-long loan to the French south coast, which has an obligation to buy clause in the deal.
The Rangers player arrived in Glasgow in 2022 from Belgian outfit Cercle Brugge, having initially emerged from the Manchester City academy. He moved to Schalke from the Cityzens, with a loan spell to Stoke City for the second half of the 2020/21 season.
Last season saw Matondo start to deliver under Phillipe Clement’s watch, scoring five times across 19 league games and once during the Ibrox club’s Champions League qualification campaign. This season has started in scintillating fashion for the Welshman, providing two goals and as many assists in a Herculean effort against Ross County last time out at Hampden Park.
Elsewhere in the Norwich squad, Sheffield United‘s Anis Slimane is expected to arrive at Carrow Road imminently, after Chris Wilder confirmed the move following The Blades’ loss to South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley in the EFL Cup.
